The Grammar Belle

Spiffing y'all up, one typo at a time

WSWH (With a bonus printable poster!)

Hey, y’all!

It’s a dreary day down here in Dallas, with the threat of even more springtime storms looming. These sorts of days make me crabbier and more critical than usual . . . which is a good thing for a blogger who nitpicks grammar and spelling.

Today’s lesson is a simple one in our “When Spellcheck Won’t Help” series. While the solution for remembering which word to choose is easy, somehow it’s rarely put into practice. So, why not help out your coworkers, students, family members, etc., and print out the exclusive, TGB-designed poster that follows? It’ll be your act of kindness for the week.

Easy as pie filling!

Easy as pie filling!

And now, at no additional charge, a poem:

I hope I’ve piqued your interest enough
For you to come back every week.
For weekly is about all I write . . .
Writing more often make me weak.
If you’re new to my blog, go on and take a peek.
Read all my prior posts.
Please share them with those folks you know
Who butcher our language the most.

Have a lovely Wednesday, y’all!

  1. “Peak” my interest always stabs me in the eyeball.

I am with ya, Ad Dude! I’m also given to bouts of rage when retailers offer me a “sneak peak” of their sale items. AUUGH.

It so bugs when someone writes, “I hope I peaked your interest.” No. No you didn’t.

The next time someone tries to peak your interest, you send them my way. I will cut a . . . well, not really, but I will give them a stern talking-to.
