The Grammar Belle

Spiffing y'all up, one typo at a time

Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda*

Some simple mathematical equations for this grammar lesson:

could + have = could’ve
could + have ≠ could OF
could ≅ would ≅ should

None of these fantastical creations exist in reality.

I apologize for any of y’all who still believe in unicorns (and fairies and leprechauns and the like) . . . but they don’t exist. And neither does “could of.”

I wish you would have gone to English class more often = GOOD!
She coulda studied that subject a bit more = GOOD, in informal uses
He should of read this lesson before he wrote this = AWFUL

*TGB double bonus math + grammar lesson. It’s like you’re getting a whole subject for free. You’re welcome.
